Linthill is a Georgian country house which was substantially extended and renovated through the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The house has recently been restored to bring the facilities into the twenty-first century whilst maintaining its period style. The house has retained the best of it's various architectural periods making it elegant but practical. Georgian fireplaces and delicate cornice
-work in the formal rooms front the working "engine rooms" in the service areas. There are generous larder and utility rooms with slate shelves and huge butlers' sinks, sitting alongside ample modern-day appliances. Linthill House is now a self-catering holiday home with 9 bedrooms, sleeping up to 16. The grand Entrance Hall, Dining Room, Drawing Room and Billiards Room were designed for generous entertainment and comfortable living. There is a fantastic new kitchen, built for feeding large parties. Although let on a self-catering basis, local caterers are available to come in if required. Linthill sits in over 100 acres of parkland bounded by the beautiful Ale Water. There are lawns, a games pitch for football and kite-flying and wonderful walks by the river and Japanese ponds. An easy walk of about mile down the drive and country lane takes you to the pretty village of Lilliesleaf with the fantastic Jammy Coo Cafe and Gallery. Just beyond the village you can enjoy pay and play golf, still-water trout fishing, and British Olympian Ian Stark's Equestrian Centre which caters for the novice to the professional. A mile in the other direction from the house is the renowned Bisley Shooting Ground, whilst to the East in St Boswell's is the fabulous "Bookseller Of The Year" winner, The Main Street Trading Company; a real gem with a wonderful selection of books, coffee shop with cakes and light meals, a delicatessen and antiques sales. The historic town of Melrose which is home to the Abbey, many historic properties and gardens, the famous Rugby Sevens Club and the Borders Book Festival, is a mere 10 minutes drive away. Tweedbank Station on the Borders Railway line to Edinburgh serves Melrose and is just under 15 minutes by cab. Edinburgh to Tweedbank is approximately 50 minutes by train. By car, Linthill House is just over an hour from Edinburgh.
