Hillside is a four-bedroom holiday home in the north Cornish village of Port Isaac. It sits halfway up the hill on the east side, at the top of the village, and is within a few minutes' walk of both Port Isaac's small harbour (known as the Platt), and the beach at Port Gaverne. Port Isaac is the home of Doc Martin (Port Wenn), and is as unspoilt as the television series portrays. In addition to at

tracting television (and film) productions, Port Isaac also offers a serious culinary experience. For example, Michelin star chef Nathan Outlaw opened the Fish Kitchen, here in 2013. Art fiends also find a number of galleries in Port Isaac, such as Katie Child's Cliffside Gallery, with its gorgeous and colourful paintings of the area. Other activities include wine tasting at the Camel Valley vineyard, coastal walks (the North Cornish coast is renowned for its spectacular views), fishing, kayaking, and of course surfing at nearby Polzeath. Hillside itself is a large late Victorian property, renovated in 2012 and 2020, which sleeps 9 people. Two of the four bedrooms are ensuite, with kingsize beds. On the top floor, you will find a twin bedroom, while the last (largest) bedroom has both a single and a kingsize bed. These two top rooms share the larger family bathroom. The kitchen is well appointed, with a range-cooker and all the kitchen accessories that serious cooks may need. For those more interested in entertainment, there is a 42" full-HD television with Freeview, and a blu ray/DVD player (with access to BBC iPlayer and YouTube). And for internet needs, Hillside offers unlimited Broadband for streaming, Skyping, emails etc. Dogs welcome by prior arrangement.

Once a year, we use Hillside as a springboard for a day trip to the Isles of Scilly, and Tresco is a firm favourite destination. The waters truly are Caribbean colours (no filters needed!), and the palm trees echo the South Pacific. But the Isles of Scilly have an identity of their own, with beauty all around. The perfect relaxed getaway 🩵

Blue fin Tuna …. Photo taken but one of our regulars on board in Port Isaac Bay.

Bluefin are the largest tunas and can live up to 40 years. They migrate across all oceans and can dive deeper than 3,000 feet. Bluefin tuna are made for speed: built like torpedoes, have retractable fins and their eyes are set flush to their body. They are tremendous predators from the moment they hatch, seeking out schools of fish like herring, mackerel, and even eels. They hunt by sight and have the sharpest vision of any bony fish.

It amazing to have them back in such numbers in our waters. The big question is, if they are here feeding, is anything feeding on them ?
