Another journey started yesterday, leaving Bergen surrounded by beautiful lights
Yesterday, just before docking in Trondheim we met the northbound MS Polarlys well dressed to celebrate our 130th birthday. On 2nd July 1893, steamship DS Vesteraalen embarked on the maiden “Hurtigruten” voyage. From Trondheim, it called at nine ports and arrived in Hammerfest three days later, 45-minutes ahead of schedule.
Snow covered mountains as we approach Ørnes. Winter is just around the corner in Northern Norway 🏔️
Winter is slowly arriving in Northern Norway
Always a pleasure to meet MS Polarlys - this time it was special as we arranged a good old waving competition. Everybody on deck was having a good time. Did you participate in one of our waving competitions?
Yesterday we experienced the coronal aurora; this appears when the aurora activity peaks and becomes very bright covering up most parts of the sky. Have you been lucky and experienced the coronal aurora before?
What a wonderful evening yesterday in the Lofoten with experiencing the Northern Lights and the Trollfjord. Where have you experienced the Aurora?
We had a lot of fun waving at MS Richard With yesterday evening. After several months in the docks she is finally back sailing along the Norwegian Coast. She is now the first hybridship in our fleet that sails the traditional coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes. Welcome back MS Richard With!
Yes, we have spectacular landscape in Norway, but sometimes the sea and a sunset is enough. 🌅
Reindeer and fish drying racks
Northern Norway is known for two things: reindeer and fish drying racks. It is however not that common to see both at the same time.
Strait of Magerøysundet
Waking up on day 6 of the voyage you realise that the landscape has changed over night. You are in the Arctic now.
Sailing in to Svolvær yesterday evening. The fisherman’s wife is watching out for her loved ones to come back home.
Hello MS Polarlys 🤚🛳
We met today outside of Trondheim. In the background you can see the island of Munkholmen with a long history that dates back to the Viking age.
The silhouette of the ship is beautifully set against the stunning landscape north of Rørvik. What a great and sunny night!
Another wonderful sailing into the Trollfjord this afternoon! 😍
Winter is now over, and Northern Norway is now enjoying the exceptional warm summer weather - nearly 20 degrees and an amazing Midnight Sun last night after Skjervøy! 😍
First time of the season sailing into Trollfjord at midnight is always a magical experience! 🤩
Stabben Fyr
Beautiful weather on our way to Bergen. Here we are passing Stabben Lighthouse outside of Florø. 🛳⚓️
Risøyrenna
A few moments ago we sailed through the narrow channel of Risøyrenna. This is one of many narrow passages on our voyage. Here you can see a lot of wildlife. 🦅🦭🦆
Birdwatching Safari with MS Nordlys, April 10th 2022
The birds are back on the Norwegian coast! Due to an extraordinary abundance of capelin, the small fish they feed on, puffins and other birds decided to come back earlier this year, to gain a little weight before they start the serious business of laying eggs and rearing their puffy chicks. There are millions of birds right now, and we are excited to be able to offer this unforgettable excursion!
