COME BIRDING IN UGANDA
From the source of the White Nile on Lake Victoria to the snow-capped Rwenzori Range, the montane forests of the Virungas volcanoes to the desert Plains of Karamoja, Uganda is an equatorial country of astonishing contrasts. No other area in Africa can match its amazing diversity of habitats and this richness is reflected in its ever-burgeoning birdlist of over 1000 species. Amongst these are many special birds such as Shoebill and the numerous spectacular endemics of the Albertine Rift Valley, which are difficult or impossible to find elsewhere. The huge birdlist is all the more remarkable given the small size of the country (approximately the size of Great Britain), making it, arguably the richest African birding destination. http://justtraveluganda.com/itineraries/come-birding-in-uganda/

Friend a Gorilla

Gorilla tracking is Uganda's most sought after tourism activity and it occurs in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest as well as Mgahinga National Park. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi is available all year, but tracking in Mgahinga depends on the movement of the gorillas as they sometimes cross over to Rwanda.

The Nyakagezi Mountain Gorilla Family based in Mgahinga National Park which had crossed to Rwanda last year is back in South Western Uganda. All nine members are back and in a healthy condition.

Thanks to E.A Tour Guide and Safari Driver-Charles Sonkofor this updates

From My Safari Journal:African have different cultural practices but all have same teachings and significance to person's life. This is how circumcision is done in Ethiopia.
Bull Jumping Of Hamer Tribe
The Hamar have very unique rituals such as a bull-leaping ceremony that a young man has to succeed in order to get married. The cow jumping is an initiation rite of passage for boys coming of age in Hamar tribe. Cows are lined up in a row. The initiate, naked, has to leap on the back of the first cow, then from one bull to another, until he finally reaches the end of the row. He must not fall of the row and must repeat successfully the test four times to have the right to become a husband. While the boys walk on cows, Hamar women accompany him: they jump and sing. Totally committed to their initiated sons, the mothers and sisters are whipped to blood, in order to prove their courage and accompany the boy during the test. It is incredible to see the girls asking the whippier to beat them, and even fighting to be the first to!

KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
Lies in the rugged, semi arid valleys between Uganda’s borders with Sudan and Kenya, some 700km from Kampala. Gazetted as a national park in 1962, it has a profusion of big game and hosts over 77 mammal species as well as around 475 bird species.
PARK AT A GLANCE
Size: 1,442km2
The park’s altitude ranges between 914m and 2,750m above sea level.
The park contains two rivers – Kidepo and Narus – which disappear in the dry season, leaving just pools for the wildlife.
The local communities around the park include pastoral Karamojong people, similar to the Maasai of Kenya, and the IK, a hunter-gatherer tribe whose survival is threatened.
