The Kodiak bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi) might look like it's just another brown bear trying to blend in, but this furry giant is in a whole different weight class! Kodiak bears can bulk up to a whopping 1,320 pounds (600 kg)—talk about bear-y impressive! Standing on all fours, they measure about 5.1 feet (1.5 meters) tall at the shoulder. But when they stand upright, they can stretch out to a towering 10 feet (3 meters)—enough to give even the bravest a reason to paws!

The ladies, or sows, are a bit more petite, coming in at 20-30% lighter than the big boys, or boars. Meanwhile, mainland grizzly bears, who are probably glad they're not in Kodiak territory, weigh between 250-790 pounds (115-360 kg), making them about 40% lighter.
