We're wrapping up our world garden tour in a very special place: Ryōan-ji. Japanese rock gardens are designed to evoke a sense of calm and serenity. The most popular rock garden in Kyoto, Ryōan-ji, consists of a rectangular plot of pebbles surrounded by low earthen walls; 15 rocks are laid out in small groups on patches of moss.
