❗️Urgent prayer request from our Founder and CEO 🇺🇦

“Our partners in Ukraine are about to embark on a tenuous 90-minute caravan to the Polish border with 15 people with disabilities and their family members. They will be met at the border by our partner in Poland; then, onto safer passage to Germany. The need is not for funds to cover the operation; I am asking for urgent, insistent prayer for their safety as they travel through embattled territory.

Pray for our Ukrainian in-country coordinator, Galyna who is orchestrating this evacuation, as well as others… she has chosen not to leave, but to do all she can to secure the safety of Ukrainians with disabilities, especially orphans. Most of all, pray for a successful 'handoff' to our partners in Poland!

We serve a God who cares for the afflicted and, surely, our Ukrainian friends are proclaiming, "For the Lord God will help me; therefore, I shall not be confounded!" (Isaiah 50:7).”

I know many of us might be carrying an extra load of worry, anxiety and fear right now. Especially as we face so many tough situations, changes, challenges and unknowns. Sometimes it’s easy to choose to rely upon our own strength rather than upon God and His Word. If you’re anything like me, then you know that we can often forget that God can handle ANY problem. Or perhaps we think we can do a better job handling the situation ourselves...especially when it feels like your prayers aren’t being heard or answered or overlooked.

Either way, when we choose to lean on our own understanding instead of God's promises, we are placing ourselves, or the overwhelming situations we are facing, "before" the Lord. The moment we step into that place of self-reliance, we open our emotions to a flood gate of anxiety and worry and fear.

But God wants us to be FREE from this! In the Scripture, Jesus confronts our anxiety (Matt. 6:25-34). He tells us to look at how God feeds the birds of the air and arrays the lilies of the field. How much more will He care for His children? Care for YOU! Care for ME!

As we grow in our understanding of God's character and love for us, His commitment to us AND provision, may we also grow in the absolute truth that not one thing in this world can separate us from His love and care. No financial burden, family crisis, job situation, election, sickness...NOTHING in the past and nothing in the future!

Because He cares SOOO deeply for us, we can cast our anxiety on Him. Our worry on Him. Our fear on Him or any depression that might be trying to rob us of living life. He’ll carry it with care and commitment and HE will always have the final word over everything!

Today, I pray that you would be able to find more strength to lay your burden down...even a little and trust that HE is with you and FOR you and will NEVER leave!

Please don’t listen to the lie that says you have no way out! That you will never overcome “this”. That you’re alone and no one sees you or cares. It’s just not true!

“Do not fear for I am with you.”
Isaiah 41:10

Wandering

Visiting my daughter in the place she now calls home, is wonderful. It’s a beautiful place to live so I get a mini vacation each time.
Mostly though, I look forward to experiencing the things she loves during each visit. Moms get me. Getting to really know our adult children and be in that different relationship…is a blessing. It’s nice to see where she works and meet the people, she shares so many hours within the course of her life.
We wander around streets and pop in little shops, and I see glimpses of the woman she has become. We visit her favorite restaurants and bookstores…I develop a visual of how she spends her days. Even when my Reuben was a vegan version, it brought me great joy to experience it with her.
I attend Irish Pub music nights and watch her come to life creating great music with others. She feels like she is dragging me along and will often apologize. The truth is, there is no greater joy than getting to experience a sample of the life your adult child has created for themselves. It is also kind of cool to see the realization in their adult eyes, that we too keep growing and changing.
Time is such a profound gift as is love in all forms. Make the time to be together and commit to learning about each other at each stage of the journey.

“It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

Crabby

Even the grumpiest people often have sensitive and soft hearts. This is what I keep telling myself after someone called me “crabby” yesterday!
Truth be told, I was a bit tough by noon that day. The entire morning had been filled with my heart and soft disposition getting stomped. It’s no wonder by the time I arrived at my next commitment, my hard shell was up for protection.
I absolutely did snap at her…she did not deserve it. I am thankful she knows and loves me enough to call me out so that my claws didn’t do permanent damage. I appreciate grace so much the older I get.
Who doesn’t get crabby now and again? The world expects so much of us 24-7. We need to cook, clean, work outside the home 40 hours a week, volunteer, run kids and dogs to a never-ending list of appointments and activities. We don’t stop. We are all one pinch away from being a crab in perpetuity.
With over 4500 species of crabs, they must have a many remarkable things to offer this world that are good and not "crabby" at all. So do you!
Today, just stop. Make time to breathe. Put the expectations of this world away and focus on the plan our creator has for your life. Let the world see past the sharp claws and hard protective shell. Let them see your heart.

“God’s Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.”
Galatians 5:22-23 CEV

Paddle

There is something therapeutic about the movement of a paddle through the water. The gentle sound as the water is pushed and the kayak glides forward.
As your arm takes action, your entire body feels a part of what is happening. The kayak and paddle might be the only thing touching the water, but every fiber in your being is sharing the experience.
Seagulls soaring overhead. Dolphins gliding beside you at eye level. Wild horses grazing in the grass on the bank beside you. It’s an immersive reminder of our small place in this magnificent world.
We are connected to everything whether we like it or not. Getting ourselves out into the world helps remind us of those connections. Whether it’s in a kayak in eastern NC, a homeless community in Asheville, or a community a world away under siege by drug cartels…. we are connected.
Like a game of dominos, something happening at one end can topple it all. We can’t fix everything or even most everything. We probably couldn’t even agree on what to fix or where to begin.
We can however, do our part to be aware, to contribute to important conversations, and to act when and where we are able. It takes courage in this climate to stand up and express our opinions. That’s okay because we have God in our hearts and by our sides.
Get out in the world when everything is telling you to run inside and close the door. Stand up when loud voices are telling you to take a seat. Let people see that with God, anything is possible.
Be a paddle moving the vessel forward through healing waters.

“But you must defend those who are helpless and have no hope. Be fair and give justice to the poor and homeless.” Proverbs 31:8-9 CEV
