We often take the trip to Plymouth on the train to visit family, but the mainline between Cornwall and London is a wonderful trip in itself taking out gorgeous stretches of the south English coast.

There’s also a branchline from Truro to Penryn and Falmouth if you want to stay with us!

Today I took an hour out to do one of my favourite walks. Starting at the National Trust car park at Bosveal it’s a 1.5 mile trek to Helford Passage (home to the Ferry Boat pub, great pit stop on a summer’s day)!

The walk takes in some gorgeous views along the Helford estuary. Turquoise waters, towering pines and secluded bays. The walk also takes you along the edge of 2 off the areas big tourist attractions, and , both worth visits in their own right.

The results are in! After procrastinating for about a year about what to do with our sitting out area in the I’ve now finished stage one of its new look.

When we first moved in this area was a very overgrown pond (actually more like an inaccessible swamp). I filled that in, edged the area with granite and put chippings down. It looked ok at first but when the leaves dropped in winter it became very messy and soon after became constantly full of weeds. I then thought about putting some kind of rustic patio down but eventually decided to re-seed it and put it to grass.

Well, some 6 months later the grass has now taken and I’ve just put together some from blocks that were lying around. I love this spot now. You can enjoy a bit of Sun or shade, surrounded by wildflowers and birds. In the evenings rabbits (and of course) foxes come to hang out.

Really looking forward to seeing guests enjoy this little slice of .

The bluebells are just about hanging on down at Argal lake.

Did you know you can walk here from Trewena, through the ancient country lanes and bridal ways of Mabe Parish.

Lovely walk out to Head today. Walking on the 🦎 Peninsula is wonderful… breathtaking views and very few crowds, particularly on this north eastern edge looking back onto and St Mawes. Wonderful to see Spring really kicking in as the bluebells come out and the blackthorn blossom starts to emerge.

Trewena is a great base for exploring the region and just 30mins from where we started this walk from.

Must be about 30 years ago that I was wondering along Whitsand bay after a storm to see if there was any decent surf.

The waves were rubbish but I did see a very waterlogged and battered scaffold plank that’d been washed onto the shore.

I took it home and used it to knock up this frame.

It now hangs in The Pigsty. Still love the character of that wood. I’ve been looking for another but ever since but never found one as good!

Just down the road from Trewena is the wonderful Tremough Campus which is shared by Falmouth and Exeter Universities.

The garden (which are open to the public and free to visit) are award winning. Visitors can take in the walled garden, herbaceous beds, sub-tropical planting, fruit producing orchard, Italian garden and terraces, the 18th Century lime avenue, parkland, the old drive with pinetum native woodlands and historic rare rhododendrons, cultivated on the site in the Victorian era.

Red Arrows, military parades and bands, a chance to get up close and personal with equipment and vehicles... all set against the epic backdrop the world’s third largest natural harbour and Henry Vlll’s sea fort Pendennis Castle.

We can't wait for this year's Armed Forces Day which will be taking place on 24th June in Falmouth. And we have space up for grabs if you're looking for a relaxing spot to stay during your trip!

Cornwall will play proud host to a breath-taking series of events – including marching bands, military displays, music, fly pasts and fireworks.

We’ve been so busy recently that it’s probably been a good couple of weeks since I went down to our coppice. Well nature’s been busy laying out a rich, lush bed on greenery since my last visit.

I also suspected we’ve had deer visiting recently as some of our saplings have been chewed, and I found the suspects in the copse when I arrived!

Some cracking mid Cornish views are to be found on the Devoran to Bissoe cycle track through the Carnon Valley.

Managed by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, the area of former tin streaming activity has left masses of lovely ponds and scrubland that are now protected habitats.

The flat trail makes for an accessible walk or day out with kids. Highly recommended!
