Loy Krathong - 2023 🪔

& her friends enjoyed a very special festival in Thailand 🇹🇭

On the night of the 12th lunar moon in the traditional Thai calendar - people gather around lakes, rivers, and canals💧

They pay respects to the goddess of water by releasing beautiful lotus-shaped rafts, decorated with candles, incense, and flowers onto the water 🤲

Loy Krathong is a magical festival in a beautiful country 🪷

With one foot forward - but never forgetting it’s past - Chinese cities perfectly combine the old and the new 🌃

Life in China is undeniably a modern one 🤖

But tucked between the skyscrapers are reminders of the fascinating culture that makes it such a special place ✨

Looking up to high-rises in the heavens - whilst standing beside a tranquil temple - is simply extraordinary 😯

Vegan in Warsaw 🌱

Whether you are avoiding animal products all together - or just fancy something different - Warsaw has you covered 👌

Voted the 9th best vegan city in the world by HappyCow Vegan Guide & Community - Warsaw has plenty of options for plant-based people 👀

From traditional Polish cuisine - to kebabs and fast food - vegans will never be too far from a delicious meal 🍽️

We know that ordering food in another country and language can be daunting at the best of times - let alone when you’re trying to avoid animal products 😾

So it’s a question we often get asked - is China vegan friendly? How about Thailand? Is Hungary? 🌏

It’s safe to say that Warsaw - and Poland in general - is the best option for any vegan teachers looking for their next adventure 👏

Getting around Warsaw 📍
 
Going to a new city and not knowing how to get from A to B can be dauting 😳
 
But you’ll be happy to know that Poland’s capital is one of the easiest cities to navigate 👏
 
Travel is cheap – convenient – and easy 💸
 
And with the help of Google Maps – you’ll have no issues finding your way around 👀
 
In this post I’ll break down the main options you have ⬇️
 
Metro – despite not covering the whole city – Warsaw’s metro is incredibly efficient and easy to use – just buy a ticket from a machine inside the station and you’re good to go 🚇
 
Bus – probably the best way to get to all areas of the city – the bus is very cheap and surprisingly fast – hop on without a ticket and look for the yellow box inside to pay your way 🚎
 
Tram – your bus tickets also works on the tram and vice versa – but if you don’t have one then do the same as you would on a bus – get on and then pay – the tram is great as long as you don’t mind being a sardine during rush hour 🚃
 
Taxi – Uber works perfectly in Poland – it’s a lot more expensive than public transport – but still a lot cheaper than in the UK and other countries – however – the significant traffic in Warsaw means that public transport or even walking can often be quicker 🚕
 
Scooter – you can find rental scooters throughout Warsaw – I didn’t try one but imagine they will be quite cheap – however – unless you are familiar with Polish roads – my advice though would be to avoid them 🛴
 
Walking – Warsaw is a big place but the centre is very walkable – if the weather permits and you don’t mind a stroll then walking Warsaw is wicked 🚶🏾
 
Like I’ve already mentioned – use Google Maps as your guide and it’s a breeze to get around Warsaw 👌
 
Everywhere accepts contactless so no need for cash 💳

1 year making an impact – completed ✅

Hi everyone – Josh here 👋

Just over 365 days ago – I was a plane back from Thailand ✈️

After a year as a teacher in Phetchabun – it was time for me to move away from education and start helping others begin on the same journey I had just finished 👨🏼‍🏫

One year on – it’s been a blast 💥

I’ve really grown and learned so many new skills – but the best bit is seeing our teachers start their own adventures and thrive across the world 🌏

Super Shenzhen 🔥

is loving life in the big city 🌃

She’s been in the former fishing village turned modern metropolis for around three months now 🎣

And her work at a state primary school is going very well - she’s really enjoying it and we’ve had nothing but good reviews from our partners 👏

She told us that she’s been making lots of Chinese friends - and about all the benefits that brings - helped by her impressive ability to speak Mandarin 🇨🇳

Between enjoying the incredible architecture and eating at delicious restaurants - she says she’s never bored and there’s always something to do 💃

Shenzhen really is a great city - Arnold visited earlier in the year and felt it’s buzz firsthand - so we’re not surprised Helena is having a fab time 🎉

Thank you Warsaw 🇵🇱

After a busy four day trip to Poland’s capital - we’re even more excited about it as an option for our teachers 🥳

Only a short two our flight from London - it’s perfect for UK candidates who want a real adventure - but prefer to be closer to home ✈️

However - despite the closeness of Poland and Britain geographically - the cultural differences are great and very fascinating 👀

It’s a buzzing, vibrant, and modern city - yet still embraces a long and rich history that it’s very proud of ✌️

And when you see stunning modern art sitting comfortably beside historical buildings - this becomes very clear 🖼️

People are warm, friendly, and genuine - usually happy to help and indulge in a little conversation too 🗣️

Whatever you need - you can find it in Warsaw 💁🏾‍♀️

And the cherry on top - it’s all very affordable 💸

But there is a caveat - to survive in Poland you must be willing to work hard 🏋🏼

Schools are demanding and require focus, passion, and initiative from their teachers 🧐

Hanoi? Ha Long? Ho Chi Minh? 🤔

No - we’re not in Vietnam 🇻🇳

We’re still in Warsaw 🤷🏼‍♂️

Home to a large and vibrant Vietnamese community - it’s very easy to find fantastic pho, bahn mi, and more in Poland’s capital 🍜

The relationship between Poland and Vietnam dates back to the 1950s when both countries were communist 🔴

And when Poland opened up to capitalism in 1990 - it became a very attractive destination for Vietnamese people who came to open businesses and start new lives 💸

In fact - the Vietnamese are the largest immigrant community in Poland - who are from outside of Europe 🌏

And I for one am very pleased to have the option of fantastic Vietnamese food, Asian influence in the city, more lovely and diverse people, and a small slice of Vietnam in Poland 👏

Great to meet with one of our Polish partners today 🤝

We had a really productive meeting about the exciting teaching market in Warsaw - and beyond 🇵🇱

The school is a private kindergarten for children aged 3 to 7 - before they start primary school 🍎

Students were incredibly well behaved - no running or shouting at all 😳

Teachers work in teams of two or more in beautiful classrooms - with short lessons in the morning and afternoon 🙌

The rest is play and naps - surrounded by English to learn in a fun and casual way 🗣️

And the whole atmosphere was lovely 🌟

We can’t wait to send more of our fantastic teachers to this wonderful school - for a new life in Warsaw 🏙️

We’re confident they’ll be very happy here 🎉

And although Halloween preparations were in full swing - there was nothing spooky about this school 👻

Look who’s here 👋

It’s happy hour at .hygge.warszawa - and we were very happy to have a beer and a catch up 🍻

We’re off to a few of our schools in Warsaw tomorrow - and can’t wait to meet some of our teachers in the evening 🤗

Step one … find yourself a cozy café 👀

Step two … order far too much food 🤤

Step three … eat all of it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Step four … feel far too full but regret nothing ✌️

Sitting only stone’s throw from the Palace of Culture and Science – Radio Cafe is a gorgeous little café full of wonderful art and even better food 🖼️

It boasts not only a great atmosphere – but also a menu full traditional Polish dishes that will get any foodie excited 😳

I had potato latkes with smoked salmon and sour cream – and pierogi ruskie (fried) with sour cream 🍴

Yes – they like sour cream in Poland 🍦

Two big dishes and a fresh juice was less than £20 – not the cheapest place I’ve eaten in Warsaw – but absolutely worth it for the quality of food, friendly staff, and comforting setting 👏

Give it a go if you find yourself hungry in Warsaw ✅

Winter in Warsaw? (It’s only October) 🌧️

I was fooled by the sunshine yesterday 😖

After speaking to a few locals - they say this is more normal - and that I’ve seen nothing yet 👀

But the grey skies, autumn leaves, and unique architecture … are actually rather charming 🍂

It’s not too cold either - but I’ve been warned that the temperature drops significantly from November until spring 🥶

However - summers are supposedly gorgeous 🏖️

So pack for all seasons in Poland - and be prepared for very cold winters 🧳

I hope you like snow too ☃️

You’re never too far from a Zabka in Poland 🐸

Translated as ‘frog’ into English - this small but mighty little green shop has everything you could possibly need 👀

From fresh fruit and veg to bread and pastries - plenty of snacks and beer - and even cat food 🐈

So next time you’re in Poland - and you or your cat are hungry - you know where to go 👉

The flight may have landed – but the travelling is not done 🤔

When you arrive at Modlin Airport – Warsaw – you’re not actually in Warsaw just yet 🤷🏼‍♂️

Around 25 miles from the city – there are three main ways to get into the centre 🏃‍♂️💨

Taxi 🚕 the most expensive but easiest – either book an Uber or find one in the taxi rank (making sure to agree a fee and avoid using the meter)

Bus 🚎 a lot cheaper than a taxi and still quite quick (other than waiting for one to arrive) – book a ticket with FliXBUS online and look for the stop just outside the airport

Train 🚂 for those on a budget – buy your ticket from a machine (that say Koleje Mazowieckie) inside the airport and wait for the shuttle bus to the station just outside – then jump on the next train into Warsaw city centre

It can be daunting arriving in a country where you don’t know the language – but Polish people often have fantastic English and are very willing to help 🤗

And once you’re in the city centre you can enjoy all that Poland’s beautiful capital has to offer 🇵🇱

After completing an intense training program – she’s now at her school 🍎
 
And she’s doing great 👏
 
But we can’t say we’re surprised 🤷🏼‍♂️

Our latest Thailand squad just finished their training in Sukhothai 🪷

So a big congratulations to them 👏

And thank you to our ace partners - - for getting them prepared for teaching … and life in Thailand 🇹🇭

Another day – another race 🏃🏼‍♀️💨

After completing her second Chiang Rai 10K – has also come to the end of her time in the ancient city ⌛️

As you can see from the photos – her students and colleagues love her very much ❤️

We’re sure she will be missed 😇

But Alice has a new challenge on the horizon – she’s staying in Thailand but is moving to another city and another school 📚

We wish her the best of luck – keep in touch Alice 👏

Leeds careers fair – Autumn 2023 🍂

We were back on the road again this Monday – after the summer break 🚙💨

It was an early start and a long drive – but completely worth it and a really enjoyable day 👌

We spoke to so many fantastic people from across the world and had some insightful conversations 🌏

There was real interest in our Thailand and China programs 🤔

It seems that more students are considering teaching abroad as an alternative to travelling – with times being hard at the moment 💸

This is the way that we believe it should be done – live in an amazing country, earn money, gain work and life experience, and travel – what more could you ask for 👏

We really hope we can help some of the students that we met on Monday – begin their international teaching adventures in 2024 ✈️

The event was set up perfectly and we want to thank University of Leeds Careers Service for a fantastic day 😃

We’ll be back on the road again soon – visiting a few more UK universities this year – and a lot in the pipeline for Spring 2024 🤝

Teachers loading ⏳

Our fabulous Thailand cohort have made it to the ‘Land of Smiles’ ☀️

After some fun in Bangkok – they headed up to Sukhotahi for training with our brilliant partner – 🤝

And the training really is fantastic – they get invaluable insight into Thai culture – as well as guidance to get them classroom ready 🇹🇭

It’s also a great opportunity to make friends and connect with other new teachers 😀

They’ll be heading to their schools across the country now – we wish them the best of luck 🙏

When in Wuhan… 👀

Our fabulous new teacher – Hannah – has been exploring the ancient city that she now calls home 🏡

But she isn’t doing it alone 👯‍♀️

With the help of a Chinese teacher from her school – her new friend – Hannah has been enjoying the benefits of having a local’s insight 🧭

She’s been ticking off all the famous sights throughout the city – but said that some of the locals are more interested in getting a picture with her than the attraction they came to see 📸

I had a brilliant chat with Hannah this week – and she’s got plenty more fascinating anecdotes to share 📞

And she will be ‼️

The boys are back in town 👑

It was great to meet up in London yesterday 🌃

We had a productive meeting – discussing exciting plans to move forwards, onwards, and upwards ☝️

New destinations may be on the horizon soon 🌎

We also talked about how we can make our teachers experiences even better 😀

And we chatted about our upcoming trip to Poland – and to the for their careers fair on Monday 9th October ✈️

But we were hungry after all that nattering – so headed to for a wonderful meal – it’s great restaurant and we highly recommended it 🍜

Quick holiday in Japan? Not so difficult when you’re a teacher in Asia ✈️

and her husband Jakub – have been having an amazing time in the “Land of the Rising Sun” 🇯🇵

It’s just a short five-hour flight from where they live and work in Vietnam 👌

Teaching in Asia not only unlocks the country that you are in – but gives you a key to the whole continent 🔓

Whether it’s the beautiful beaches of the Philippines, a jungle experience in Laos, or an indulgence in the delicious food and wonderful culture of Japan – Asia is yours when you choose to become a teacher there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great city, brilliant company, delicious food 🍖🇨🇳

– one of our fantastic new teachers in Shanghai – has been loving life in China so far 🫶

He’s enjoying his work in a kindergarten teaching young learners – has made lots of new friends – and has also joined a rugby team – 🏉

When living abroad – it’s important to keep up old hobbies or begin new ones – to help maintain a sense of normality and identity whilst being so far from home 💪

Plus – they’re usually a great way to meet people with similar interests 🕺🏾💃🏼

So when Lewis isn’t working hard or playing rugby – he’s probably out with new friends eating delicious food 🥢

What a guy – we knew he was going to smash it 💥

Keep up the good work Lewis – and enjoy all that wonderful Shanghai has to offer 👏

Summer isn’t over yet in Poland ☀️

– one of our fantastic teachers from Zimbabwe – has been enjoying the late summer sunshine on the beach 🏖️

YES – there is sunshine and are beaches in Poland 😱

She also met up with one of our latest recruits – Sonali – at a summer camp 🏕️

Amnastencia has been in Poland around 6 months now – and she’s still doing great 👏

We can’t say we’re surprised 🤷🏽‍♂️

Keep having a super time, working hard at school, and enjoying the sunshine – while it’s still here ⛅️
