The Saville family group had a fantastic trip on the Rodfather in the weekend. 11 year old Brooklyn caught the biggest blue cod weighing 2.7kg. Thanks for coming guys.

A big thank you to the Commerce Club for choosing the Kaikoura fishing charter fleet for hosting their national fishing competition on Friday and Saturday. Five boats took out 39 fishos over one and a half days. Despite windy and swelly conditions in the mornings there was some great fish caught. Craig in the Waikato team took out the heaviest fish at 16kg on the Rodfather.

Kim and Sue from America have fished many places around the world and thought they would try deep sea fishing in Kaikoura. So after catching three nice groper we headed to the Kaikoura hospital and I cooked up the fish for the residents. They thought it was fantastic.

New fishing rods for the kids for Christmas resulted in two nice gurnard and a kawai.

I have had a few people asking how I made the shock absorber for my sea anchor/drogue. I used two of the longest Speargun rubbers from Hunting&Fishing, I got the ones with stainless steel ends. I used four 5mm stainless and two 8mm D shackles and 10mm stainless Carribean that I clip onto the stern bridle. Also a float to stop it from going under the outboard. I spliced up a bridle and connected it to the 8mm shackles and it sets how far the rubbers can stretch, about 18 inches is they can handle as they don't last long if they over extend . On my 5 meter boat one rubber is enough but 6 meter or bigger Needs two. Works really well takes all the jerkyness out.
