Bhutan is known for its breathtaking landscapes and a rich cultural and historical heritage. The Dochula mountain pass which is located halfway between Thimphu and Punakha is an important site that is home to the Druk Wangyel Chorten complex, built as a moving tribute to the bravery and sacrifices made by the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and the Royal Bhutan Army. Here, you can also enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountain range.

Punakha Dzong is the second-oldest and second-largest dzong in Bhutan, and a strong contender for the most striking. This is especially true in spring when the dzong is surrounded by blooming jacaranda trees. The dzong not only serves as the winter home of the Central Monastic Body but has also hosted a number of significant national events such as the wedding of His Majesty The King to Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck.

It’s easy to feel infatuated with the idea of Bhutan when you first hear of this mysterious Himalayan kingdom, but once you discover the people, food, its culture and traditions, and feel the pulse of what truly makes the nation, you are in love. Be surprised by the diversity of Bhutan – so much more than meditating monks and smiling faces. From the flamboyant heart of the country’s modestly sized capital to remote highlanders and sultry southern foothills, Bhutan is a land at once meticulously preserved and rebelliously modern.

Royal Wedding Anniversary

For the people of Bhutan, our King and Queen are the embodiment of dignity, grace and compassion. His Majesty has been at the forefront throughout our battle with the COVID-19 pandemic, tirelessly walking the ground looking after the people and protecting the lives of the Bhutanese. Particularly as Bhutan reopened to tourism after two and half years with renewed commitment to conservation, sustainable initiatives and excellent world class services, His Majesty’s guidance and steadfast work has been our source of assurance, inspiration and comfort. In the ongoing national transformation initiatives, we see a bright future for Bhutan.

On the Royal Wedding Anniversary, we humbly renew our dedication towards building the great and prosperous nation envisioned by Their Majesties. We wish Their Majesties greater peace, happiness, and prosperity, and pray that we are forever blessed by Their Majesties’ love and guidance.

Born in 1989 with the aim to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction, the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction acknowledges the progress made toward preventing and reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and economies. It's a day to celebrate the efforts of people and countries around the world in reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness. It's a reminder that disasters disproportionately affect the most at the local level and communities in developing countries with the potential to cause greater loss of lives, mass displacement and social and economic turmoil.

As a mountainous country, Bhutan is highly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change such as experiencing melting glaciers, floods and unpredictable weather patterns. Bhutan is committed to step up its efforts to maintain its status as one of only few carbon-negative countries in the world.

Plan your trip to Bhutan ❤️

Bhutan is truly timeless; many may see it as an anachronism but the nation’s ancient traditions are fused with modern life in the most natural way that it defies chronological misplacement. On the surface the main avenue of capital Thimphu appears modern, but travelling around it and to other parts of the country offers innumerable opportunities to experience the country’s traditional culture and connect with incredibly hospitable people. Another reason to plan a trip.

Happiness is a place!

Happiness is still a place. Happiness is also people, education, wellbeing, family, friends, faith, trust, home, abundance and many more. Bhutan is beyond the idea of an imaginary, beautiful faraway utopia where life approaches perfection. In the highly volatile world, Bhutan has always paved its own pathway, guided by wisdom of its clever history and intelligent policies backed by science. Bhutan is a land whose strength comes out of its smallness, where innovation is not hindered by orthodoxy, where culture and people are ageless but progressive.

Daga Dzong is also known as the Daga Trashiyangtse Dzong. The name is derived from the words Darkala, the region's guardian deity and Darkarnang meaning ‘the realm of white prayer flags’. Established in 1671, the fortress was the office of the Daga Penlop. Located atop a gentle hill, the dzong appears regal. The Daga Dzong houses interesting relics like the massive buffalo horn, supposedly discovered in the early 16th century by Daga Penlop Tempa Thinley.
