This Dzong holds a sacred place in the hearts of all Bhutanese. The one of the largest and oldest Dzong in Bhutan. It is well maintained as it has rich tradition and also being historical place. Punakha is winter residence of the central Monastic body.
It is beautifully located between two rivers of Phochu (male river) and Mochu river (Male river).

Located above the beautiful Rinpung Dzong, a short distance from the Paro town, Ta Dzong used to be a watch tower built to defend the Paro Rinpung Dzong from invaders. Now a national museum, the fortress has on exhibit a fascinating collection of artefacts, arms and weapons, portraits, and objects and relics of historical and religious significance to the country and region. It is one of the most visited museums in the country.
